This course is made up of 7 units which we will covered at the rate of a unit a term by Mr Peters and I over the six terms.  It should also result in you launching a successful business start up and something to be proud of!

Meet last years winning Young Enterprise Team Managing Director, their product and their promotional online video click here

Enterprise what is it ? click here and get thinking

Enterprise qualities - What are they ? click here and test yourself

Enterprise skills - What do they look like? click here and see if you know

Before we can understand the mindset required to be an entrepreneuer we need to think about our own mindset but first lets consider the mindset of a man whos built one of the biggest brands in the world - Richard Branson. Click here to see the assignment brief and specification for this unit.

For starters and in PAIRS I want you to log on to the internet and identify what an entrepreneur is.  What does the  describe?  What are the origins of the word?

Your first assessment  (P1) will require you to make a short power-point presentation about two successful entrepreneurs and the skills, qualities and mindsets that they have to become successful.  This web-page describes their skill set rather well so click here and take a look!

The Peter Jones Mindset click here alternatively you might wish to view the interview with Duncan Goose click here Five years ago he was unknown and now he is perceived as the greatest Social Entrepreneur on the planet ! Not bad eh ?

A453 Generic findings and feedback from first controlled assessment

Good Morning Yr 11 Computing

with only 145 school days before your final exams I think that you will agree that it is time to deliver the goods and get the job done.  Lets start with the feedback from the first controlled assessment that you submitted last term.

  1. Complete all three tasks with at least two of the three tasks.  Currently two tasks are completed to 67% of where they need to be!
  2. No test strategy in the design section - WHY?
  3. Not enough ANNOTATION of coding. WHY?
  4. No test plan in testing section.  WHY?
  5. Lack of Algorithms in design section
  6. Too much collusion

So far you have had 18/20 lessons to submit this so you have TWO lessons to sort this out before we submit it to the exam board.

Lets make the most of this time as I don't have to remind you that the coursework makes up 60% of the overall course.

Looking forward to seeing you all shine.

Promotional Mix - what is it and how would you describe it?

Good morning year 12

before we start anything today we will look at the theory behind a 'Promotional Mix'

and the difference between the 'Promotional Mix and the Marketing Mix'

During period 2 we will start looking at your first assignment and the research that you will need to do for the first task in order to pass it. To start with you will need to choose TWO CONTRASTING companies (one for profit and one not for profit) and identify a current promotional campaign that they have running in the media to promote a current or new product or service.

Welcome back and we all hope that you enjoy studying business at Level 3

Good luck and enjoy

Unit 9 Creative Product Promotion

Good morning Year 12

as promised I have created the assignment and the outline specification for this new unit which we will start today.
  • Assignment and deadlines can be found here
  • Specification and outline can be found here
The first thing that we need to do is agree the deadline dates. Your second challenge is to find a couple of businesses to promote. However I do like the old promotional campaign that Marks and Spencer's ran this time last year based on 'Britain's Leading Ladies' click here to find out more and for those who like you tube clicks their advert can be seen here

Sorted.  Other helpful resources can be found here:

Resource 1
Resource 2
Resource 3

Suggested P1 approach:

Investigate two promotional campaigns from two contrasting companies (one PLC and one not for profit) and produce a report discussing and explaining the decisions made in each promotional campaign.  Using the example above why did M&S use these people, why promote best of British, why use older ladies, why base the photos around outdoor and casual, why mix up value and expensive products.

This resource here will help you do well in this unit.  Don't panic I have sent this to print for those who appreciate its value.

If your still looking for promotional campaigns you might want to look at some online trade magazines at the links below:

Brand Republic

Marketing Week

Our aim is to get this unit in the bag well before Christmas.

Good luck and enjoy

Unit 1 Communicating in the IT Industry

Good Morning Year 12

this will be the first assignment for this short course of two GCSE's

lets get it sorted!

Some articles in the news will support you with this

  • BBC report on small towns and villages in Yorkshire
Discussion for P6 - understand the impact IT has had on our society

Do we really understand the impact IT has had on:

  • individuals - young children, teenagers, academics, adults and retired people
  • the local community and
  • society as a whole
Q. Does everyone have equal access to it? Why? What disadvantages does this bring? What are the implications locally, regionally and nationally of this?

Q. What different working practices does the introduction of IT allow?

Q. Does the development of IT bring any challenges or difficulties in terms of abuse, theft, bullying and how does society deal with this or does it?

Looking forward to seeing you all shine this year !
