Thought for the Day - Time, Attention and Care

Dear Year 10

As we leave our friends behind to focus on Easter can todays thought for the day be on

Time, to reflect on what went well this term and what can be better next.

Attention, are you a person who has learnt about the importance of detail or do you push to make sure that you invest the time to make the attention to everything a priority?

Finally CARE, its the pillars of our society for a reason and as Ofsted noted, it helps us drive our moral compass.

Spend today discussing where you are with the above and more importantly where you would like to be so that your focus for the rest of year 10 is HOW YOU WILL GET THERE.

Happy Friday and sorry you didn't get an Easter card by hand so watch out as ill get it to you somehow before Easter.

Oh and thanks for being the best tutor group ever

Its never too late to make a difference!

Sometimes you see stuff that pops up on your social media feeds that really stops you in your tracks.  Sharing stuff is so important as it allows you to create a conversation not shut it down. P
I shared this with a few in my closest circle and one young woman replied and shared her views. So I shared the video clip and all her views with our head of lower school. Head of Personal Development and Head of Sixth Form.
This is what she had to say....
“It’s good these videos get made, raising that awareness needs to be an on-going thing for women. I feel women know all this subconsciously, but so many of them go day to day without paying attention to their own awareness of the truth. Blindly walking through the day accepting what’s thrown at them without questioning.
I couldn’t bear to work in advertising, what a false, glamour, narcissistic, consumerist, vacuous line of work.
This is why people like Michelle Obama are great figure heads, teaching young women to focus on their skills as a human being, not their sexuality to progress in life and find happiness. We need to  hold healthy self esteem and teach young people that the art of fulfilment is contribution and personal growth.
Not looking the thinnest you can!
Oh and yoga or 20 minutes of mindfulness before lessons at the start of every day would do wonders for retained focus, reduced stress, self awareness and kindness to others”

We need to listen more to the youth in our society. They are the future and the sooner we hand over stuff to them to lead on the better our societies will be.

Thought for the day - If there are only 2 sexes why do we have 13 differerent genders?

Dear Year 10

how many genders can you identify ?

Male

Female

In the 50's we had Transgender

Now we have CIS gender and CIS IT gender that looks at characteristics, genes and gender

Gender neutral

And this article here identifies 63

You can watch the seven best Ted Talks on the topic here

Are You Gender fluid?
Mr T took the test and guess what....?
89% was my score
Congratulations, he was gender fluid! If you don't know what this means, it means that sometimes you feel like one gender, such as female, and others as another gender, such as male! Remember, your gender identity is not the same as your biological sex.

So lets take the Gender Fluid test here or here

Enjoy

This weeks Thought for the Day on Children in Need Day - Why do we need to develop skills

Why do we need to develop SKILLS:

  1. Be able to read (effectively)
  2. Listen (properly)
  3. Follow instructions
  4. Think quickly
  5. Be aware of the world around us and understand what's going on in the world
Because the world that you are preparing for needs you to be able to do more than COPE!

Employers want these skills and school is where you should be developing them!

Some of you are doing great but others are still fighting the system.

Time is ticking for you all in this GCSE but if you have it in you Imberhorne School will get it out of you.

For those that did not do that great in the BBC CIN fun quiz this morning why not try it again in your own time or with your family when you get home but remember to focus on developing your skills EVERYDAY.  Then check your answers here

Thought for the day - Is there ever such a thing as a Just War?

Cameron put his case for and against such a debate and created a powerpoint to support you in thinking about it.  You can see it again here

You still have an opportunity to think about this again.

Is there ever such a thing as a just war? Have you got an opinion and if so where would you put yourself on the continuum? yourself on the continuum.

To the left of the room never - To the right of the room always

Still not sure look at the slides  here  Oh and here is the Guardians view on armistice centenary

BBC ethics puts the case against a just war click here

Think more recently about Iraq, Libya and the gulf ward and the great war of 1914-1918 which is 100 years ago this Sunday

Then reflect over the weekend on how you might say thank you for those that did go to war to allow you to live in a free democratic society today

Ways to say thank you
