Religious education gives you a competitive edge...

Hi Year 11

Having the competitive edge and an ability to discuss, argue analyse and evaluate on ethical and moral issues the lovely Miss Joynes has collated you some resources to support you over the next two weeks.

I appreciate that you have a lot to do but think of this.  As a currency to compete for places at sixth form and university how many of you would benefit from having more GCSE's not less and especially having them in subjects that allow for your ethical and moral stance to come to the fore.

Here are some useful links that should help.  Revisit this blog page regularly in your free time as I am sure you will watch it grow!
  • loads of mini tests and a mock paper-just select the subject you want to revise-not so good if you want the higher grades but will get you a C click here
  • Extensive notes on all subject you need-good for reading through the night before or to make mind maps from. Click here
  • THIS IS THE BEST REVISION WEBSITE. Has videos, notes and includes all the Bible quotes and examples you will need.Click here
  • If you want to score some bonus marks....Click here
The following are not necessarily revision materials, but are interesting and cover the issues raised by the subjects studies. Will give you some great stuff to write in your 12 mark (e) questions where you have to provide a number of points of view:
  • Take the citizenship test!
  • Some very interesting documentaries covering a number of subjects click here
  • Do crimes deserve the death penalty? click here
Enjoy and fill your time with this targeted revision and make the most of it as its all free

  • Michael Johnson will coach you half way with strategies in the hope it will have a positive and instant impact on your performance.
  • Click the link here to take you to it.

Planning for success in the mock exams and beyond

Good morning year 11
with less than 6 weeks to go before the real January exams and much less for the mocks I thought that we could use the career development planning afternoon window to look at injecting some motivation into you with regard to planning your revision.
In comparison world class athlete's and rugby, football and cricket teams don't win on a global stage by chance.  They PLAN, PREPARE and PRACTISE.  Here are a few top tips and some bite size help and support to help you do the same:

Mr Fanchi has created this presentation to explain the above. How great is he !

I also found this website 'Class of 2012' quite helpful for last years year 11's.  Click the link here and let me know what you think of it.
Revision plan
A typical revision plan looks like this.  You don't have to use this layout but the slide show below is a great example of what yours could look like and it would save you lots of time  re-inventing the wheel. To save you time I have attached one below for you to personalise to your exam commitments
The link here will take you to that template I mentioned earlier to create your own.  You might also wish to look further down at the top tips and advice also available here and free to you.

Thinking further ahead and onto the final exams in the summer these revision tips below might be quite helpful.

And if that's not enough to coach and mentor yourself with over the Christmas holiday period then why not look at what advice packs might support you when the pressure builds from below:

GCSE revision tips   - Coping with worries and anxieties
GCSE revision tips   - How to remember
GCSE revision tips   - How to revise

The best until last.  If you like what you see above why don't you treat yourself for Christmas to the exam booklet and revision diary below:

Good luck, enjoy and happy Wednesday
