Unit 8 - P6 Produce a realistic personal career development plan

Dear all

P6 requires you to produce a realistic personal career development plan for as suitable career and show what you will do over the next five years so for you it will cover:

  • The next two years at college or in an apprenticeship at L2 or L3
  • The next three years on a L3 or L4 programme be it University or work based learning
The three questions you need to answer to pass this task are:
  1. Where are you now?
  2. Where would you like to be in five years time?
  3. How will you get there?
To help you do this task in a lesson I have created a template that you could actually complete within a lesson click here
  • What skills does this job require?
  • What qualifications does this job require?
  • What experience does this job require you to have?
  • Does your plan include measurable targets and time lines / dates?
  • What professional qualifications are required for this job role and how long will these take to achieve and where will you study for these?
M5 requires you to produce a realistic personnel career development plan showing independent research and planning.  This could include independent research and planning such as:
    • On-line search for some person specifications for this job role
    • Careers research to see what qualifications this job role requires
    • Some research into the appropriate courses and professional qualifications and where these can be achieved, the cost and the time required to achieve them
    • Some evidence to show who you have spoken to.  What websites you have looked at (print screens) what people you have spoken to e.g. Careers in school, Kudos etc
    • www.unifrog.org
So add all the websites that you have used in researching your personal career development plan and college courses that you have looked at, people you have spoken to.  The following links on the external school website may help you find a job career plan and complete M5 quicker see below

D3 requires you to EVALUATE the suitability of a realistic career development plan using interview performance feedback and your own reflection..

For D3 you really need to be able to reflect on your own performance at the interview you took part in for P5 and using this and the interviewers feedback, evaluate the suitability of their career development plan and update or improve the plan where appropriate

    • Do you need longer to develop your plan? How much longer 2w,4w,6w,10w?
    • What was the feedback from the interview with Mrs E?
    • Are you happy with the feedback from the interview? Why?
    • Do you need to take a different route to achieve your career plan, if so what was it? Full time College.  Full time work?
    • Is there anyone else that can give you feedback, information, advice and guidance on your career plan? Plumbers, Entrepreneurs, Friends and family, teachers etc?
    • Are their alternative qualifications that would get you to where you want to be? E.g. C&G, BTEC, Corgi
    • Do you think that your career development plan is still suitable for you, If so why/ If not why not?
    • If you had to add anything else to your career development plan what would it be e.g. Prices Trust research, Shell Live Wire, Apprenticship.org
    • Do you need to take a different route
    • Are there alternative qualifications that would get you to where you want to be

P3 My next move - Final unit starts today - Unit 8 Recruitment, Selection and Employment

Dear all

you will be pleased to know that this is your fourth and final unit.

Unit 8 is all about recruitment and selection and we will start with P3 which requires you to produce an appropriate and detailed job description and person specification for a specific job role.

To do this can I suggest that you:
  1. Choose a job that you would like to apply for - you decide but link it to your career
  2. Describe what a job description is - use text book or on-line definition
  3. Describe what a person specification is - Use text book or on-line definition
  4. Then create a job description and person specification for the dream job that you would like to apply for. Use the prospect link below to do this!
  5. Draw an outline of a recruitment and selection process that you would have to comply to should you actually apply for a job this term - see GCSE core text or Mr T quick sheet!
The following links may help you find a job easier:

For M2 you need to make sure that your job description and person specification is super detailed and realistic and justify why these documents will encourage effective recruitment.
current

For M3 you need to justify how your current knowledge and skills meet those required in a given person specification and job description.  In other words have you got the skills and knowledge that the employer is looking for NOW if so demonstrate how or if you have not what can you do about getting these skills and this knowledge e.g. more work experience, more training, more courses, part time job watching others, you tube clips, online tutorials and courses, job shadowing etc

D2 requires you to analyse gaps in knowledge and skills that might require further training or development to match the requirements of a given person specification and job description

What will you achieve this week?

Good luck and enjoy

Controlled assessment part A Planning and preparation stage

Good morning Year 10

This coursework is a business investigation so its all about what you do to find the search to support Abdul in launching his business.

You are writing with a purpose and that purpose is to advise Abdul on whether or not his market research plan is suitable for his proposed bike shop.  To do this effectively you will need to consider your knowledge and understanding of market research and its importance in determining the marketing mix of Abdul's business but you also need to consider:
  • the data provided in the five sections of the exam board market research plan
  • the target group for the research
  • other information that you think is appropriate
I have created you a list of reparation and research in the same order as the market research plan and  you really should be finishing off this now.  The list  of things to do includes:

  1. Look at competitors where the business will open.  Print out a Google map of who the potential competitors are (no more than 6/7) and briefly look at the STRENGTHS and WEAKNESSES of each one.  Is 5 miles far enough to look ?
  2. Look at secondary research on the demographics of the local area.  Identify age groups in the area that the business will open the link here may help.  The national office of statistics may also help here and Acorn that our A level learners use here
  3. Your primary research is where your proposed questionnaire comes in.  Do you have one yet with 10 questions that Abdul could use.  Abdul does not think much of this idea as his previous employer would have done it for him.  He also thinks like him everyone loves cycling and the interest in it is high.  Is he correct in thinking this?
  4. What do you think of test markets.  Clearly Adbul puts no value on this.  What is your advise to Abdul based on what you know on the subject now.
  5. Abdul believes that the answer to all his prayers lies in the SWOT analysis. This is very good at looking at the business idea in outline view and you know that Strengths and Weaknesses consider factors inside the business but on its own can Abdul rely on this to launch his business.  You should however ensure that you have one in your folder to refer to in the write up on the 18th March.
  6. The exam board says collect any other research that you think is appropriate so I have attached a few things to look at on the links below.  The more research you do the better all three sections will be when you write it up as all the points that you make will be backed up with evidence from the research.  Your opinion without the research will make for a dull read.

You could make a bullet point list of the top ten facts that you find that you think will help you make good recommendations to support Abdul in his bike business start up using the links below

think that should keep you busy for the first hour.  We cant get an IT room on Friday so we can use Friday to draft out our INTRODUCTION together in class and see how well we did today

Good luck and enjoy and remember that an A* requires some classy research

Mr T
