Another exciting challenge for year 12 Business and Economics students

The challenge :  In 200 words, we are asking students to answer the question ….. “If you were the new Chief Executive Officer/Managing Director of your favourite business, what would you do to attract the best employees?”

The reason we are contacting you is because we would love to receive some submissions from your students!  This can be done one of two ways:

  1. You or a Year 12 teacher could run a class with Year 12 students, using the lesson plan attached to this email. Collect all the submissions and send them to us via post.
  2. You can forward the above link onto students in Year 12 and encourage them to enter online independently.
More information and Teacher Resources are available to download on the website - here
The closing date is 24th  January 2016 and your students will be told if they have been successful in their application by February 15th.
Prize and stages

Stage 1: The 200 students who come up with the best ideas will be selected to attend a skills and assessment day at Allen & Overy on the 15th March 2016.

Stage 2: Based on their performance during the skills and assessment day, 60 students will be offered a place on a week-long intensive work experience programme at Allen& Overy’s London office (w/c 4 July 2016).
Smart Start is the first work experience programme in the legal sector to be accredited by City & Guilds, the internationally recognised vocational education business, for its quality and content. The programme is aimed at building confidence and developing skills, from improving personal impact, to analysing, negotiation, presentation and team working. These are useful transferable skills which can be taken into any career. Participants will also get the opportunity to start building a network of contacts amongst business professionals, as well as amongst their peers from other schools.
Stage 3: After the work experience programme has finished, all Smart Start participants are offered the opportunity to benefit from advice and support from business volunteers, through Smarter Futures, our e-mentoring programme.

Stage 4: Smarter Futures mentees will also have the opportunity to apply for a bursary from Allen & Overy to support them in their university studies.

With regards to getting to and from the assessment day, up to £10 will be reimbursed by Allen & Overy on the day and therefore, you do not need to arrange transport. We would expect your support in organising the students and gaining parental consent.

Students who are successful in gaining a place on the Smart Start Experience will also be able to get their travel reimbursed during the week up to £30.
