Using ‘Enterprise Education’ to engage disadvantaged, disengaged and vulnerable children

As a classroom teacher of GCSE & BTEC L3 courses, I always have to create an opportunity to work with a KS3 students, be it by creating a Christmas Market, Enterprise day or other `market place' linked to a Young Enterprise or Tycoon in School, competition, but I always enjoy it when I do.

Today was no different, but I was lucky enough to work with three business owners who had twenty minutes each to tell their stories of their journey from school to running their own business and who doesn’t love a great story.  The three videos below were unscripted.  Michelle had only jumped of the plane the previous evening and Nick had some pressing strategic issues to deal with that day, but they are all masterclasses on inspiring young people to stop, reflect and find a better version of themselves so that they can make better use of their time and create even more opportunities for themselves if and when they do.

So it was great to observe three life-times of experiences being shared with a small class of Year 9, 14 year old learners.

Michelle Chappell - World class customer service champion and Director of On Your Bike

Nick Blyth - Founder & MD of The Paella Fella

Nanette - Clinical Psychologist in a previous life and Owner of We Love Pets in East Grinstead
